16 Day Itinerary:
Day 1 London - Los AngelesTitan’s VIP Home Departure Service® collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport for a direct, scheduled Virgin Atlantic flight to Los Angeles. We overnight at an airport hotel (4T).
Day 2 Los Angeles - Santa BarbaraThe scenic splendour of California’s Pacific coastline is first apparent on today’s drive to Santa Barbara. In this great seafront city, we visit the Old Mission, for 200 years its principal cultural and historical landmark. Our hotel tonight is the beachfront Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort (4T).
Day 3 Santa Barbara - MontereyThe coastline of the Big Sur is justifiably famous, and we enjoy a taste of this en route to Monterey, along with a visit to hilltop Hearst Castle, the breathtakingly grand estate of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst, now designated a national monument. Relax for two nights at the Portola Hotel & Spa (4T).
Day 4 MontereyThere are more captivating Pacific views to appreciate this morning as we follow 17 Mile Drive, one of the world’s most picturesque drives, taking in coastal stretches both rugged and idyllic, along with the splendid golf links of Pebble Beach. There is free time to make your own explorations of delightful Carmel. In the afternoon, unwind at the hotel or join us on an optional visit to the magnificent Monterey Aquarium.
Day 5 Monterey - San FranciscoA morning drive takes us to iconic San Francisco. Cosmopolitan and liberal, attractive and elegant, ‘San Fran’ has a character unique among great American cities. Our city tour takes in the Golden Gate Bridge, Union Square and vibrant Chinatown, and the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway (4T) makes a comfortable base for two nights.
Day 6 San FranciscoA day at leisure to enjoy San Francisco at your own pace, or join one of our optional activities and visits.
Day 7 San Francisco - Napa Valley - SacramentoWe travel northeast into the world-famous Napa wine-lands today, and savour a delicious lunch aboard the magical Napa Valley Wine Train, with its immaculately restored 100-year-old railcars and bygone charm. Our journey then continues to the Californian capital, Sacramento, where we stay at the Hyatt Regency (4T). The district of Old Sacramento, with its variety of characterful 19th century buildings, is a delight to explore.
Day 8 Sacramento - Yosemite National Park - VisaliaOne of the great highlights of this holiday is Yosemite National Park and, en route to our next overnight stop, we take some time to marvel at the natural majesty of its valley floor, taking in crystal-clear lakes, soaring mountains and lush forests including the towering giant Sequoia trees from the comfort of an open-air tram. Our hotel for the night is the Hotel Marriott Visalia (3T).
Day 9 Visalia - Las VegasA drive through the desert, with a stop in Barstow, takes us across the border into Nevada and the unmistakeable neon lights of America’s playground, Las Vegas. There really is nowhere quite like it for glitz and extravagance, and you certainly don’t need to be a gambler to enjoy it - there are great museums, breathtaking shows and world class restaurants to appreciate. We stay at one of the great casino-hotels, Paris (4T) for two unforgettable nights.
Day 10 Las VegasChoose one of our optional excursions to visit monumental Hoover Dam or view Las Vegas’ glittering ‘Strip’ on a thrilling helicopter flight. Or simply strike out and discover the city’s unique attractions for yourself.
Day 11 Las Vegas - WilliamsEn route to Williams, historic railway centre and gateway to the Grand Canyon, we stop on Route 66, perhaps the most exhilarating and storied of roads, running from Chicago to Los Angeles. Our base for two nights in Williams is the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel (3T).
Day 12 Grand Canyon - Grand Canyon RailwayFor more than a century, the Grand Canyon Railway has whisked pleasure-trippers from Williams to one of the world’s great natural wonders. We ride these venerable rails and take plenty of time to marvel at the extraordinary canyon itself - 277 miles long, 18 miles wide and 1 mile deep, carved out by the Colorado River, now just a distant silver ribbon. Pre-bookable optional flights (fixed wing or helicopter) present further stunning views. We return to Williams by coach this evening.
Day 13 Williams - Sedona - ScottsdaleToday we pass through the vast Colorado Plateau and the pertinently named ‘Red Rock Country’ - the city of Sedona - surrounded by massive red-rock monoliths and breathtaking chasms. Kick back in Sedona or join an optional jeep safari to admire more sublime desert scenery. Our hotel in Scottsdale is the Marriott Suites Old Town (3T+).
Day 14 Scottsdale - Long BeachA day’s drive back to the Pacific coast delivers us in Long Beach, a self-confessed ‘giant playground’ in the heart of Southern California. We stay here at the Hotel Maya (4T).
Day 15 Long Beach - Los Angeles - In flightFollowing a half day sightseeing tour of Los Angeles, introducing such evocative districts as Hollywood and Beverly Hills, along with downtown, Sunset Strip and the extraordinary Farmers’ Market, we transfer to Los Angeles airport for a direct, scheduled Virgin Atlantic flight to London Heathrow.
